Kirill Basalaev

Kirill Basalaev's works are based on the term "ruinization" - the acceptance of the urban environment as a constantly crumbling structure, where a person is forced to endlessly maintain life in it. The modern urban space now looks like a space that has no authorship, a form seeking a function for itself. Concentration on the topic of the relationship between a person and a city, their mutual influence allows to Kirill to use all kinds of building materials, rethink the culture of graffiti and the activities of housing and communal services.
His works are traces of the process of destruction and decline of the urban environment taken out of the context of the megalopolis. Chips, cracks, breaks - in this way the space enters into a dialogue, exposing the layers, demonstrating the "insides", pointing the person to his place. For Basalaev, the city acts as a hostile environment, a monster of total control, a structure that limits freedom.
